Are We Turning A Blind Eye?

Just recently my wife and I were getting ready for work and our children were getting ready for their summer care program.  As I walked down the hallway I heard my wife tell my daughter, “You’ll have to take that up with daddy.  I have to get in the shower.”

I followed my daughter into her room and asked her what she needed.  She wanted to wear a skirt to summer care, but she knew that we wanted her to wear pants or shorts because she participates in athletics during the day.  However, today she just wanted to look pretty.  So… Like any good father, I found her a pair of shorts to wear under a long skirt and we were both happy.  What I have learned is that girls, no matter what their age, just want to feel beautiful.

Just a few hours after dropping my daughter off at her summer care program in her skirt, scarf, and braided hair, I saw the video below.  I was brought to tears when the lady in the video talked about her choice to wear pants because a skirt would make it too easy to be taken advantage of.

Take a few minutes to watch this candid video.

I fear that too many churches have turned their eyes away from the darkness where sin flourishes.  We look to find comfort in our sanitized sanctuaries where we can be shielded from the cries of those that need the truth of Jesus Christ the most.  There are folks all over the world that suffer just like the lady in this video and we still find time to fight over the color of the carpet in the sanctuary.

I’ll be sharing a few more thoughts that have come to mind in tomorrow’s post.  Today I would like to know whether this straight forward truth would be welcome in your church.

  1. That’s a tough word to hear. At the same time, my church in DC would absolutely hear this message. We always make an effort to be straightforward and unafraid, but the DC culture always makes us a bit more politically correct or whatever. This is the kind of word that would be absolutely welcome in our doors.

  2. What a powerful testimony! That certainly would be hard for many to listen to, It was hard for me and nothing like that ever happened to me. I would like to say that her message would be welcome in our church. The genre is certainly not our style, but the message our message because it is God’s truth. –Richard
