There were a lot of things that I did not get to do as a child because I came from a poor family. This is why I have such vivid memories of those that afforded me the opportunity to do things that I would not have otherwise been able to do.
I remember as a teenager when I accompanied a friend of mine and his family to the beach for the first time. I had never seen anything so grand. My friend and I slept in the back of the pick up truck each night for a week because the family could not afford another hotel room. But in my eyes it was a small price to pay for the trip of a life time. I knew I would never have experienced anything like this with my family …and I never did.
Those memories came flooding back to me a little over a week ago when I sat in the living room of one of my son’s friends. This boy has a life much like the one I had growing up so I was thrilled when Joshua asked if he could go to the beach with us this year. When his mother told him he could go, he jumped up in the middle of the living room and gave me a hug and kept saying, “thank you! thank you! thank you!”
I have reflected on that moment a lot over the past week. I am just as excited for this boy to go as he is, because I have been in his shoes.
So let me ask you. Is there something that you can do for someone today that they would not otherwise be able to do for themselves? Has God blessed you with resources, time, energy, or opportunities that you can use to change someone’s life? If so, the question then becomes who? Who will be the recipient of your gift?
If you have been on the receiving end of this type of gift, will you share your story below?

I spoke with a man this morning that is out of steady work due to a foot injury. He asked me if I knew where he could find a little bit of work.
God provides me with three great jobs and I told him to come to the ranch this weekend and I would work him. Little does he know that he will be getting paid so that I can tell him about Jesus Christ. Now that’s a win-win situation for everybody.
I pray that God will bless your generosity and open this gentleman’s ears to hear and touch his heart to receive.
