For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore, put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.
– Ephesians 6:12-13 (NIV)
There are some who simply do not believe in the supernatural. If you are a child of God, you should not be one of them. The Bible makes it clear that their is a realm of existence outside what we see and experience with our flesh and bone bodies. Unfortunately, secular culture has largely defined the supernatural to the general populace through big screens in Hollywood and on the small screen through television.
Hollywood generally paints the supernatural as being evil. Fear is what is portrayed for hours upon hours, movie upon movie, and episode upon episode. And for reasons unbeknownst to me, people gobble up the opportunity to be frightened in the moment, only to never really consider the implications, or reality, of what lies beyond. It is common place for people to pay for a cheap thrill at the theater and never consider the supernatural in any real way.
Whether you realize it or not, there is an enemy that is working to keep you from the things of God—one that you do not see. But God does not leave you defenseless in the presence of such an enemy. Unlike the movies, in reality, the forces for good are far greater than the forces for evil. If we follow the instructions of the Lord, we have no reason to walk in fear. We have at our disposal everything we need to be victorious.
Some will fall prey to an enemy they cannot see because they will refuse to acknowledge its existence. Some will lose the fight because they have a false idea of the supernatural because they only know the fanciful stories of Hollywood. But you can be prepared to stand and fight—to win—if you follow God’s instruction. Start by knowing the truth of the Bible and knowing the God of the Bible and then discipline yourself towards obedience. Victory goes to the Lord.
